We develop advanced technologies for basic and applied ocean science. As a sea-going research group, we focuses on scientific discovery and technology development, working closely with local, state, and federal agencies as well as industry partners. The lab is part of the Marine Physical Laboratory, supporting research aligned with national security interests.
We specialize in robotic systems, sensors, autonomy, and data analytics. Our team has led complex field measurement programs around the world, deploying expeditionary sensor platforms and maintaining global data networks. Educational opportunities for undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers are offered through hands-on involvement in R&D projects. We participate in the Applied Ocean Science Graduate Program.
In 2025, the Coastal Observing Research and Development Center (CORDC) was renamed the ROGUE Lab — RObotics Group for Undersea Exploration — to reflect the lab’s evolving focus on autonomy, robotics, and field-driven ocean technology development.
